What if I tell you, you can now charge your cell phone with that glass of cold beer that you have in your hand or with a cup of hot coffee? I am sure you won’t believe me, but thanks to this compact heat engine (that we are discussing today) you can, almost anywhere, charge up your cell phone battery.

The team of some developers called the “Epiphany Labs” has developed a small device that can actually charge up your cell phone battery with a glass of any hot or cold drink. The device is called “Epiphany onE Puck”. The Epiphany onE Puck can connect to your iPhone, any Android phone or any iPod that usestheUSB charging method.
So basically any USB device that can be charged through a USB cable and draws a power of up to 1000 mA or less can be charged using this Epiphany onE Puck device.
 

How Epiphany onE Puck works:

The device has two sides, one for Hot drinks (Red side) and other for the cold drinks (Blue side). The device makes use of the difference in temperature of the device itself and the drink, to convert this energy difference into the power, enough to charge up the mobile phone.epiphany-one-puck-hot-charging

That simply means, higher the difference in temperature, higher and faster the charging will be. So a freshly brought cup of coffee would produce more charging than a cup of mild hot coffee.

Thus next time when you are at some club holding a beer or at work grabbing a coffee, you don’t need to run away to charge up your cell phone. This device is compact enough to be carried in pocket andlooksgood too.

मणि दाहाल, काठमाडौं, माघ ११ - नेपालले आफ्नै भू-उपग्रह (सेटलाइट) राख्नका लागि आवश्यक पर्ने स्थान अन्तरिक्षमा छुट्याइदिन अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय दूरसञ्चार युनियन (आइटियु) समक्ष आग्रह गरेको छ। सूचना तथा सञ्चार मन्त्रालयले भू-उपग्रह राख्नका लागि आवश्यक पर्ने अर्बिटल स्लट छुट्याइदिन र भू-उपग्रह प्रक्षेपणको सम्भाव्यता अध्ययनका लागि आवश्यक सहयोगका लागि आग्रह गरेको हो।
‘अर्बिटल स्लट छुट्याउन र सम्भाव्यता अध्ययनका लागि सहयोग गर्न आइटियुसमक्ष पत्राचार गरेका छौं,' मन्त्रालयका अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय सहयोग शाखाका प्रमुख गुरुप्रसाद सुवेदीले नागरिकसँग भने, ‘आइटियुले आफैंले भू-उपग्रह नपठाउने भए पनि त्यसले प्राविधिक गर्न सहयोग सक्छ।'
उनले सम्भाव्यता अध्ययनका लागि प्राविधिक उपलब्ध गराउन विषयमा चासो देखाएको बताए। ‘यस विषयमा डिसेम्बरमा दुबईमा भएका दूरसञ्चार अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय सम्मेलनमा आइटियुका एसिया प्रशान्त निर्देशकसँग केही छलफल भएको थियो,' उनले भने।
पृथ्वीको भू-उपग्रहको व्यवस्थापन राख्ने स्थान छुट्टाउने काम आइटियुले गर्ने गर्छ। नेपालले माग गरेको स्लट पृथ्वीको भू-मध्यरेखाबाट ३७ हजार किलोमिटर माथि हो। त्यो मौसम तथा दूरसञ्चारका भू-उपग्रह राख्नका लागि उपयुक्त मानिन्छ। तर यसमा भू-उपग्रह राख्दा त्यसले अन्य देशका भू-उपग्रहलाई प्रभावित गर्ने गरी राख्नु हुँदैन।
१५ करोड अमेरिकी डलर खर्चेर भू-उपग्रह पठाउने योजनामा रहेको बंगलादेशले १०२ डिग्रीको अर्बिटल स्लट उपलब्ध गराउन माग गर्दै आइटियुमा आवेदन गरेको थियो। बंगलादेशको स्वतन्त्रता सेनानी बंगलाबन्धुको नामकरण गरेर पठाएको आग्रहलाई अमेरिका, अस्ट्रेलिया, रुस र फ्रान्ससहित २० भन्दा बढी देशले आफ्नो भू-उपग्रहलाई असर गर्ने भन्दै त्यसको विरोध गरेका थिए। सन् २०१५ सम्म आफ्नो भू-उपग्रह पठाउने लक्ष्य लिएको विकल्पका रुपमा बंगलादेशले ६९ डिग्री माग गरेर पठाएको छ।
सुवेदीले सम्भाव्यता अध्ययनका लागि अर्थ मन्त्रालयसमक्ष सात करोड रुपैयाँ बजेट माग गरिएको बताए। ‘१० करोड रुपैयाँमध्ये सात करोड रुपैयाँ माग गरिएको छ,' सुवेदीले भने, ‘सरकारले पूर्ण बजेट ल्याउन सकेको भए यसै वर्ष यो कार्यक्रम पर्ने थियो।'
सरकारले भू-उपग्रह प्रक्षेपणको सम्भाव्यता अध्ययनको आवश्यक तयारीका लागि नेपाल दूरसञ्चार प्राधिकरणलाई जिम्मा दिएको छ।
प्राधिकरणका फ्रिक्वेन्सी शाखाका प्रमुख अमर स्थापितले त्यस विषयमा अध्ययनका लागि विज्ञ टोली गठन गर्न लागिएको बताए।
‘त्यसले आफ्नै भू-उपग्रह पठाउँदा कति खर्च लाग्छ, त्यसले कस्तो व्यापार गर्ने हो, त्यस विषयमा कमिटीले निर्णय गर्छ। नेपालले मात्र प्रयोग गर्दा उपयुक्त हुन्छ वा हुँदैन। अन्यसँग व्यापार गर्न सकिन्छ/सकिँदैनजस्ता विषयमा अध्ययन गर्नेछ,' उनले नागरिकसँग भने, ‘तर अहिले यो कार्य प्रारम्भिक चरणमै छ।'
नेपालमा दूरसञ्चार लगायत विभिन्न प्रयोजनका लागि भू-उपग्रह प्रयोग हुँदै आएको छ। त्यसका लागि नेपालको लाखौं विदेश मुद्रा बाहिरिने गरेको छ। गत वर्ष नेपालका दूरसञ्चार कम्पनीले २ अर्ब ५८ करोड रुपैयाभन्दा बढी भू-उपग्रहको ब्यान्डविथ तथा अन्य कामका लागि खर्चेको नेपाल दूरसञ्चार प्राधिकरणले जनाएको छ।
जासुसी तथा सैनिक प्रयोजन, मौसम भविष्यवाणी, दूरसञ्चार सेवादेखि अध्ययन अध्यापनको काममा समेत भू-उपग्रह प्रयोग हुने गरेको छ।
नास्टका प्राज्ञ खगोलशास्त्री ऋषि शाह दिनदिनै बढ्दै जाने भएकाले आफ्नै भू-उपग्रह पठाउन ढिलो भइसके पनि सत्तामा बस्नेले ध्यान नदिएको आरोप लगाए।
‘दिनदिनै यसको आवश्यकता बढ्दै गएकाले भू-उपग्रह राख्न ढिलो भइसकेको छ,' उनले भने, ‘राजनीतिक इच्छाशक्तिको अभावले यो हुन सकेको छैन।' उनले अर्बौं रुपैयाँ लाग्ने भएकाले पनि राजनीतिक क्षेत्रबाट सशक्त पहल नहुँदासम्म यो सफल बन्न नसक्ने बताए।
१९५७ अक्टोबर ४ मा तत्कालीन सोभियत संघले स्पुतनिक पहिलो नामको भू-उपग्रह पृथ्वीको कक्षमा प्रक्षेपण गरेको थियो। ५० भन्दा बढी देशका आफ्नै भू-उपग्रह कक्षमा भए पनि अन्तरिक्षसम्म भू-उपग्रह पठाउने क्षमता ११ देशसँग मात्र छ। अहिले तीन हजारभन्दा बढी भू-उपग्रह पृथ्वीको कक्षमा रहेको अनुमान छ।
